Philip Janzen is an assistant professor in the Department of History at the University of Florida, where he has taught since 2019. He is currently writing a book about people from the Caribbean who worked for the British and French colonial governments in West Africa in the early twentieth-century. He is also the co-editor of “African Refuge | Refuge africain,” a bilingual special issue of The Canadian Journal of African Studies on the politics of refuge-seeking in Africa. He received his Ph.D. in African history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2018
