Professor Horace G Campbell

Professor Horace G Campbell is a Professor of African American Studies and Political Science at Syracuse University in New York, United States. He is well renowned for his work on international peace and social justice, and has been involved in several of African liberation struggles with remarkable impacts across the Caribbean, North America, Europe and Africa. He previously taught at Northwestern University and the University of Dar es Salaam; while also visiting universities in China, South Africa, Ireland and Uganda as a Distinguished Professor. He held the Kwame Nkrumah Chair of African Studies at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana during the 2016-2017 academic session. He has taught courses on Politics of Africa, African International Relations, Pan Africanism, Comparative Politics, International Political Economy, Introduction to African American Studies, Militarism and Transformation in Southern Africa, Introduction to Pan Africanism, and the Caribbean Society since Independence; with specific interests in advancing the application of fractal wisdom and fractal optimism within the framework of Pan African Relations. Professor Campbell is also well known for his work in the community and has served as the President of the Pan African Community of Central New York (PACCNY) and an executive member of the North American delegation of the Pan African Congress. His is well known for his very influential work titled Rasta and Resistance: from Marcus Garvey to Walter Rodney (1985), which has versions in English, French, Spanish, Turkish and Italian. His other books include:  Reclaiming Zimbabwe: The Exhaustion of the Patriarchal Model of Liberation (2003);  Pan Africanism, Pan Africanists and African Liberation in the 21st Century (2006), Barack Obama and 21st Century Politics: A Revolutionary Moment in the USA (2010) and Global NATO and the Catastrophic Failure in Libya: Lessons for Africa in the Forging of African Unity (2013). Professor Campbell is the Director of Africa Initiative at Syracuse University and is a regular contributor to several news publications including Counterpunch, TeleSUR and Pambazuka News.
